Annotation. This article presents a scientometric assessment of the implementation
of the “green library” concept in universities of Central Asia and analyzes its influence
on research productivity. In the context of the global transition toward sustainable
development, university libraries are transforming into environmentally and digitally
oriented centers of academic infrastructure. The green library concept is understood as
a комплекс of practices including the digitalization of library collections, reduction of
paper consumption, adoption of energy-efficient technologies, and promotion of
environmental awareness through educational initiatives.
The methodological framework of the study is based on a bibliometric analysis of
university publication activity indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, and RSCI, along
with an evaluation of library infrastructure and sociological methods aimed at understanding users’ perceptions of the library’s role in research activities. Statistical
analysis revealed a positive correlation between the level of digital and ecological
modernization of libraries and key scientometric indicators such as publication output,
citation rates, and international research collaboration.
The findings indicate that universities with more advanced electronic library
environments demonstrate higher research productivity. At the same time,
environmental initiatives implemented through libraries contribute to fostering a
culture of sustainable development within the academic community. The study
concludes that the green library serves as a significant factor in enhancing the research
effectiveness of universities and strengthening their integration into the global
scientific space.
