Annotation. This article examines the didactic foundations for fostering interest in reading among primary school students as one of the key directions of modern elementary education. The author emphasizes the need for purposeful pedagogical influence aimed at developing a stable motivation for reading and forming a culture of reading. The article highlights the specific features of organizing the educational process in Russian language and literary reading lessons, which contribute to stimulating students’ cognitive activity and emotional response to literary texts. Methods and techniques that ensure personal engagement of students in the reading process are analyzed, including the use of games, creative activities, problem-based situations, and interdisciplinary connections. The practical part of the study demonstrates that combining the didactic principles of awareness, activity, and individual approach promotes the development of an intrinsic need for reading and the formation of a positive attitude toward books. The results confirm that reading in primary school serves not only as a means of education but also as a crucial factor in the personal and spiritual development of children.
