THE MORAL IDEAL OF MODERN FANTASY (J.K. ROWLING "HARRY POTTER")
Key words: moral ideal, fantasy, good and evil, humanism, moral values, Harry Potter, Rowling, spirituality, self-sacrifice, friendship, freedom of choice, devotion, modern literature.
Annotation. This research article examines the formation and manifestation of the
moral ideal in modern fantasy literature using J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter"
series as an example. It emphasizes that Rowling's works have become not only
a literary but also a cultural phenomenon, significantly influencing the worldview of
an entire generation, especially young people. The author analyzes the moral and
philosophical foundations of these works, exploring the eternal themes of good and
evil, love and self-sacrifice, friendship and betrayal, justice and responsibility.
Particular attention is paid to how a concept of a modern moral ideal is shaped
through a system of radically different characters and artistic images. Rowling's
heroes demonstrate the value of inner freedom, moral choice, and loyalty to
one's principles, even in the face of conflict between personal interests and social duty. The narrative centers on the idea of spiritual growth, which evolves from
a childish, naive perception of the world to a conscious, adult moral choice.
Rowling reinterprets traditional moral categories, emphasizing compassion,
love, devotion, acceptance of differences, and responsibility for free choice. Thus, the
world of Harry Potter becomes not just a fictional space, but a moral model reflecting
the spiritual guidelines of the 21st century.
The results of this article demonstrate that fantasy as a genre has powerful educational
potential, capable of instilling in young readers a sense of empathy, a desire for
goodness, honor, justice, and an appreciation of the value of human life.
